Name: Prof Bruno Basso
Organisation: Michigan State University (MSU), USA
Professor Bruno Basso is an ecosystem scientist and Foundation Professor in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at Michigan State University (USA). He is the cofounder and chief scientist of CiBO Technologies. His research focuses on sustainable agriculture, with a primary focus on understanding drivers of spatial and temporal variability of crop yield, water and nutrient fluxes across landscapes.
Prof Basso pioneered the use of spatial crop simulation modelling and integration with satellite, airborne and Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) imagery to identify causes of crop yield variability. He is also one of the research leaders at the Agricultural Model Intercomparison and Improvement Project (AgMIP) community of experts, and has participated as a principal investigator in several international projects, authoring numerous technical publications. He holds global patents on agricultural intelligence systems to evaluate land productivity and environmental sustainability. He is the Chair of a recently formed committee at the US National Academy of Sciences that aims to study and advance the science of soil dynamic systems. He is also a Fellow of the Soil Science Society of America and the American Society of Agronomy.
